What makes an emerald cut different

An emerald cut is a step cut: instead of the many small triangular facets of a round brilliant, it has long, parallel facets and a large open table. The result is a calm "hall of mirrors" flash rather than scattered sparkle. That open table is also why clarity matters more than with other shapes — inclusions have nowhere to hide. Every emerald cut we set is VS to VVS clarity and D–E colour, so the stone looks clear and bright edge to edge.

How to choose

  • Proportions. A length-to-width ratio of about 1.3–1.5 gives the classic rectangle; lower looks squarer, higher looks longer and slimmer on the finger.
  • Size on the hand. An emerald cut shows more surface than a round of the same weight, so it looks larger per carat.
  • Orientation. North–south (the usual way) lengthens the finger. East–west, set sideways, gives a modern, low-profile look.
  • Corners. The cut corners protect the stone, which makes emerald cuts practical for everyday wear.
